Haldwani Communal Violence: Muslim mob attack policemen and create riot after illegally built madrasa was demolished on court order
Haldwani: Communal tension gripped Haldwani of Nainital , Uttarakhand on Thursday when violence broke out by muslim mob after one illegally built madrasa was demolished by local administration after receiving court orders. After the riot like situation erupted, the local administration imposed Sec 144 and ordered shoot at sight to keep the situation under control.
On Thursday, the local administration demolished an illegally built madrasa in Banbhoolapur area and after that what is believed, a pre-planned attack on police force was carried out by a local muslim mob in which hundreds of police personnel got injured . Multiple vehicles including a police station was raged in fire by the protesting mob and 2 people are believed to have lost their lives in the riot.
The situation is said to be escalated when the administration reached the spot with bulldozers to demolish the illegal structure, the local residents including women started pelting stones at the police force, which in retaliation threw tear gas towards the mob.
As per the Haldwani Municipal Corporation, notice was served in advance and no provocation was made from Police personnel during the demolition drive. The demolition continued despite fierce opposition from the muslim mob.
The internet services were suspended and schools have been shut to keep the situation under control. CM Pushkar singh Dhami also chaired a high level meeting to take stock of the situation and ordered the administration to take strict action against rioters.
